NASA Space Apps Challenge 2026 comes to 42 Urduliz Bizkaia

Can you imagine spending a whole weekend working as a team to solve a challenge set by NASA? From November 13 to 15, you’ll have the chance to do just that at 42 Urduliz Bizkaia

The Next Frontier

The NASA Space Apps Challenge, the world’s largest STEAM hackathon, returns to 42 Urduliz Bizkaia for the fourth consecutive year. For 48 hours, our campus, an initiative promoted by Fundación Telefónica and the Provincial Council of Bizkaia, will become a space to create, experiment and find solutions to real-world challenges set by NASA.

And no, you don’t need to be a programmer, scientist or space expert to take part. Everyone is welcome: creative, scientific, tech and entrepreneurial profiles, or simply anyone eager to bring a different perspective and work as part of a team. The only requirement is to be 18 or older.

You have 48 hours. What would you do?

Under the theme “The Next Frontier”, this year’s edition features 14 challenges related to Earth, space, science and technology.

You can come with a team already formed or join on your own and find teammates at the campus. Choose a challenge and, from there, you’ll have 48 hours to research, share ideas, test, make mistakes, try again and turn your proposal into a project. At the end of the weekend, you’ll present it to a jury.

Solutions will be assessed according to criteria such as impact, creativity, validity, relevance and presentation. And the challenge can go far beyond that weekend: selected projects will have the opportunity to advance to the international stage of the NASA Space Apps Challenge.

Every year, NASA Space Apps recognises outstanding projects from around the world through its 10 Global Awards. Winning projects are selected by experts from NASA and its partner agencies. Teams that reach the final stage also have the opportunity to present their solution to a NASA science and technology team.

What starts over one weekend in Urduliz could take your idea much further.

48 hours, the 42 way

The NASA Space Apps Challenge is a natural fit with the way we understand learning at 42 Urduliz Bizkaia: learning by doing, tackling real-world challenges, sharing knowledge and working as a team to find solutions.

And that is exactly what you’ll experience during the hackathon: people with different skills and perspectives working together to build a solution from scratch.

Ready to take on the challenge?

From November 13 to 15, come with your team or join on your own. Bring your knowledge, your ideas and your willingness to contribute.
